Cependant, le fidèle de bonne volonté n'a plus que la TOL dans l'oreille. Et du coup ne comprends plus rien à l'affaire.

Dans la KJ 1611, on a:

For Herod feared Iohn, knowing that he was a iust man, and an holy, and obserued him: and when he heard him, hee did many things, and heard him gladly.

Et dans la version moderne:

For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

La New American Bible (catholique)

Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and kept him in custody. When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him.

Ou encore la Nova Vulgata:

Herodes enim metuebat Ioannem, sciens eum virum iustum et sanctum, et custodiebat eum, et, audito eo, multum haesitabat et libenter eum audiebat.

Que comprendre?
